It involves looking at the upper part of the gut which includes the oesophagus (food pipe), stomach and the first part of your small bowel (duodenum) with a narrow flexible tube called a gastroscope. An endoscopy offers an opportunity to collect tissue samples (biopsy) to test for diseases and conditions that may be causing anemia, bleeding, inflammation or diarrhea, Ulcers, Celiac diseases, Blockages. It can also detect some cancers of the upper digestive system.

What should i avoid before OGD?

1. Dont ingest(Eat or Drink) anything for atleast six hours before procedure time.
2. Don't take any antiacids or Carafate before the procedure
3. Don't eat solid foods a night before procedure, eat light foods.

At Malolo Hospital, procedure day is every Wednesday we insist patients to visit the hospital one day before the day of the Procedure.
